7.5% Reservation for Rural Students Studying in Government Schools:The Government of Karnataka has proposed an important amendment to the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Government Seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006.
NOTIFICATION
The draft of the following Rules to further amend the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Government seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006 which the Government of Karnataka proposes to make in exercise of the powers conferred by section 14 of the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Capitation Fee) Act, 1984 (Karnataka Act 37 of 1984), is hereby published for information of all the persons likely to be effected thereby and notice is hereby given that the said draft will be taken into consideration after fifteen days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Any objection or suggestion which may be received by the State Government from any person with respect to the said draft rules before the expiry of the period so specified will be considered by the State Government. Objections and suggestions may be addressed to the Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, M.S. Building, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru-560 001.
- Title and commencement.
(1) These rules may be called the
Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Government seats in Professional Educational Institutions (Amendment) Rules, 2026.
(2) They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the official Gazette.
- Amendment of rule 9.- In the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for
Admission to Government seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006, in rule 9, after sub-rule (3), before “Explanation”, the following provisos, shall be inserted, namely:-
“Provided that, out of fifteen percent of Government seats,-
(a) seven and half percent (7.5%) of seats shall be reserved horizontally for eligible rural candidates who have studied from first standard to tenth standard in Government schools managed by the Department School Education and Pre-University in Government Pre-University Colleges managed by the Department of School Education which are situated in the rural areas of Karnataka; and
(b) seven and half percent (7.5%) of seats shall be reserved horizontally for eligible rural candidates who have studied from first standard to tenth standard in educational institutions or schools, which are situated in the rural areas of Karnataka.”
